Meet Your Florida Insurance Specialist

Hey! My name is Thyrza, and I’m the founder of Find Coverage. I’ve been living in South Florida for the past 6 years, so I’m very familiar with the networks and options available in the area. I help individuals, families, self employed professionals, and small business owners find health insurance that fits their needs and budget. I work with clients across Florida, Orlando, Jacksonville, Destin, and Pensacola to Tampa, Naples, Fort Myers, and all the way down to Miami. My specialty is private health insurance in Florida for people the marketplace underserves.

I work with snowbirds, self-employed Floridians, early retirees, small business, and families across the state to find private PPO plans that travel with you and don’t surprise you at tax time.

Who We Serve in Florida

Find coverage is for the Floridians the marketplace forgets, the ones whose lives don’t fit a tidy W-2 income box.

Why Private Health Insurance in Florida?

Florida is one of the fastest-growing states in the country. Over the past few years, major companies have continued moving to Florida, bringing new jobs, new opportunities, and constant growth. New construction is everywhere, and people from across the country continue to make Florida their home.

Florida also has one of the highest ACA Marketplace enrollment rates in the nation. While the Marketplace works well for many people, it isn’t built for everyone, and the gap is wider than most Floridians realize. For higher-income families, self-employed individuals, investors, and business owners who do not qualify for significant subsidies, Marketplace plans can become very expensive. (You can check your Marketplace rates here)

I’m present in both large and small cities across Florida, helping investors, construction company owners, small business owners, entrepreneurs, and 1099 workers find health insurance solutions that fit their needs and budget.

I serve clients throughout South Florida, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Hialeah, and Deerfield Beach, as well as Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota, Bradenton, Orlando, Kissimmee, Lakeland, Jacksonville, Gainesville, St. Augustine, Fort Myers, Naples, Cape Coral, Pensacola, Tallahassee, Destin, Panama City, Port St. Lucie, Melbourne, and many other communities across the state.

Whether you’re in a growing city, a coastal town, or a rural community, I’m committed to helping Floridians understand their options and find coverage that supports their family, health, and financial goals.

📈

Variable Income? You’re Exposed.

If you’re 1099, commission, real estate, seasonal, or a business owner, the marketplace makes you estimate annual income up front and reconcile at tax time. Underestimate, and you owe the subsidy back. We see this catch Floridians off guard every April.

✈️

Coverage That Travels

If you split time between states — snowbirds, traveling professionals, dual-residence families — most marketplace HMO and EPO networks don’t travel with you. Private PPOs do. That’s the flexibility that private health insurance in Florida provides.

💰

Above the Subsidy Cliff?

If your income is above the subsidy cliff, you pay the full unsubsidized marketplace premium. Often that’s higher than a comparable private PPO plan with a wider network.

📅

Year-Round Enrollment

Between jobs, retired before 65, or self-employed? Private PPOs let you enroll year-round — no waiting for open enrollment, no qualifying life event required.

How “Building Your Coverage” Works

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all marketplace plan. You build it with a licensed Florida agent, a real person who knows the carriers, the networks, and the trade-offs.

1

We begin with your real life

your corner of Florida, your doctors, and how your self-employed or seasonal income actually flows.

2

We build on a private PPO core

a broad network that travels up north when you do, instead of a narrow Florida HMO.

3

We add only what fits

dental, vision, accident, or critical illness, and skip what you don’t need.

4

No April Surprises

priced to you directly, so there’s no subsidy reconciliation at tax time.

Florida Hospital Networks and UnitedHealthcare

Most major Florida hospital systems participate in UnitedHealthcare’s PPO networks — including AdventHealth, Baptist Health South Florida, Orlando Health, Memorial Healthcare System, Cleveland Clinic Florida, HCA Florida Healthcare, Tampa General Hospital, BayCare, Lee Health, and Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Because participation can vary by specific plan and tier, I verify your hospital and your doctors against the exact UnitedHealthcare plan before you enroll — so there are no surprises when you need care.

Florida Health Insurance FAQ

It depends on your income. If you qualify for strong subsidies (premium tax credits), a Marketplace plan is usually cheaper, and I’ll tell you so. But if you only qualify for a small subsidy, or you’re right at or above the income limit where the help drops off, a private PPO is often the cheaper option, and usually with a broader network. The only way to know for sure is to compare both side by side for your exact income, which is what I do for you for free.

You really have two paths — Marketplace or private — and the right one comes down to your income and your health.
– If you qualify for a premium tax credit, the Marketplace is usually your best deal.
– If you have a higher income but you’re managing a pre-existing condition, the Marketplace is often still the safer choice — though depending on the condition, there are private plans that can work, and I’ll help you figure out which.
– And if you’re healthy with a higher income, a private plan will often give you the best price and the widest network to carry you to 65.

ou have both Marketplace and private options. If your income is too high to qualify for subsidies (or your subsidy is very small), a private plan is often the better deal, depending on your health. If you do qualify for a premium tax credit, I’ll usually point you to the Marketplace first, unless you specifically want a PPO that the Marketplace doesn’t offer or only offers at a high price. I look at both and recommend whatever genuinely costs you less for the coverage you need.

In most cases, yes. I rarely recommend keeping COBRA — more often than not, you can get a solid private plan for less than COBRA costs. There are a few situations where COBRA does make sense, and I break those down in my post here. Send me your COBRA quote and I’ll compare it against your private options.

With private insurance, coverage can often start as soon as the next day once you’re approved. With a Marketplace plan, if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, coverage typically begins the first of the following month. I’ll let you know the soonest realistic start date for your situation.

No. Private health insurance doesn’t follow the ACA open enrollment schedule. You can apply year-round in Florida.

Yes, that’s one of the biggest reasons Floridians choose private PPO plans. Nationwide network, no state-specific HMO restrictions, doctors in both your states.

You can, but PPOs through the Marketplace tend to be expensive and limited. Most private carriers do offer true PPO plans with broad networks. The one thing to watch for: make sure you’re getting real, comprehensive coverage and not a limited-benefit product dressed up as insurance, that’s exactly what I help you verify before you enroll.

Private insurance isn’t income-based, so it doesn’t matter whether you had a big year or a slow one, approval is based on your health, not your earnings, with no income estimating or tax-time reconciliation like the Marketplace. A nice bonus: if you’re self-employed, your premiums are often tax-deductible, so ask your tax advisor about the self-employed health insurance deduction.

Some private plans medically underwrite, others don’t. We’ll match you to a plan structure that fits your health history. Underwriting isn’t always a dealbreaker, many Floridians qualify for excellent rates.
